Caspian

I almost forgot...last night was the meeting of the CS Lewis Society. They were discussing Prince Caspian, the book and recently released movie. Of course my mother and I decided to attend the meeting- could be fun. The discussion of the book was interesting and I wished that I had re-read the book recently so that I could have participated and enjoyed it even more. I haven't seen the movie yet either, but now I am determined to see it soon.

Changes

It has been quite awhile since I have written and so much has been happening. I have moved back to Chattanooga and started a new job. So, all has gone well I think- just a lot to learn and do right now.

I have friends in overalls...

I have friends in overalls whose friendship I would not swap for the favor of the kings of the world. Thomas A. Edison

How true this is in my life. I have been so blessed to have amazing friends and it seems I meet new friends in unlikely places that I instantly feel I've known forever. So, to my friends old and new...I wouldn't trade you for anything!

Packing Bags

I am getting ready to leave Nashville and return to Chattanooga and so I have to begin packing up. I have A LOT of stuff, and it's not even all here. I definitely think that yard sale is in order as soon as I return home.
I have gotten used to my apartment, but have never really loved it. One of the reasons is that I really hate the kitchen. I love to cook, but I don't love the stove in this apartment--it's just like most stove apartments...not so great.

I have my living room set up as it was when I lived in a house, but it is just a white-walled box and there is no warmth there.

I have cute little knick-knacks that I will begin packing away first. One of them is a cute little monkey that I had purchased at the Galleries at the Southside that just makes me smile when I look at it.
It's so nice to have those things that make us feel at home and as I pack my bags to make my way back to Chattanooga I realize how at home I feel back there. Comfort and ease are not everything, but it is really a blessing particularly when you are back with people that love you.
I know some may say that I am giving up and taking the easy way, but I guess I look at it like this... I could stay in Nashville and I would be fine, but I choose to be back home with those that have loved me thru it all. That's just my point of view. :)

My Signature Me List

I saw this on another blog that I read and thought it was fun- a Signature Me list:
My Foundation: Laura Mercier Oil Free Foundation or MAC
I have gone back and forth between these 2 for the past year. The MAC is great for full coverage especially when applied with a brush and the LM is great for a light night applied with a wet sponge.
My Mascara: Maybelline
You know, I change mascaras just about every time I need mascara and this is what I am using right now. If I could afford to always buy it- I would buy Chanel though- it lasts the longest and has no clumps.
Skincare: Philosophy- Hope in a Jar, When Hope is Not Enough and Hope in a tube for Eyes
I discovered this line when I was in a NYC Sephora with my Mom earlier this year. I was having a terrible time with my skin at the time and bought this and within a couple weeks noticed a big difference in the look and feel of my skin. I love this stuff.
My Favorite Makeup Product: MAC Concealer or Laura Mercier concealer
Ok I have 2- or one if you just want to say that it’s concealer. You will rarely see me out without my concealer on- thanks to my dark circles. So, the MAC is in my makeup bag and the Laura Mercier two color pan is in my purse for touch-ups on the go. Perfect.
My Other Favorite Makeup Product: Benefit Georgia and Hula
You know, for whenever you need a little extra color on the face.
My Perfume: Coco Mademoiselle and VS Very Sexy
Coco Mademoiselle makes me happy and always has- it’s makes me feel feminine and strong. VS is a scent that the guys seem to like and I like it too.
Three Products (besides solar) to bring on a Deserted Island: Lip Balm, Shampoo and toothbrush/razor
I hate chapped lips (I have a problem with picking at them), oily hair and gross teeth and unshaven armpits. So, I would have to create that toothbrush/razor combo to make this happen
Woman with the Best Sense of Style:Goodness, I don’t know.
I just like what I see on people…can’t think of one in particular that stands out. If anything I would say a Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn-very classic.
My Ultimate Dream:
Happy life with a wonderful man and a family.
: How Do I Define Womanhood
Confident, mother, wife, strong
My Favorite Fashion Publication:
Vogue, In Style

Do I look 30?

I had a wonderful conversation with a friend of mine today- we discussed many things. One of those things was - do we look 30? I am not quite there yet, but will be soon and she has already arrived. I think that I still look young; I offer as evidence that within the past year I have been carded. She too feel that she looks young, but is beginning to doubt.
I hypothesize that how we are perceived depends on the way that we are dressed. When I am dressed in a suit for work and totally "done" then I probably do look 30 or close to it... on days like this though when I have jeans and a t-shirt on I think I really could pass for 25. Maybe. It probably has to do with the attitude too. I feel young and act young in general, but when I need to be "older' because it will give me an advantage then I guess I will act in such a way.
When we were younger 30 seemed relatively old. I thought that someone who was 30 likely had their life together and was just really mature. Now that I am almost 30 I still feel like I could be in college, like I am still a youngling. I don't know that any college kids would think the same of me- they may think that I act and look just as old as I am. Who knows? I guess I'm glad that I feel young, I have haircolor to cover all the grays, and I have new opportunities in front of me.
Is 30 so bad really???

Art, Wine and Friends

What a wonderful evening...art,wine and friends. The Clothesline Art Show at the Sessions House was tonight and I left early from work just to make it in time. There were such amazing beautiful pieces and so diverse, all created by local women. I find it so hard to pick the pieces that I want when I feel drawn to so many and of course have a limited budget. The pieces ranged from prints to photographs to masks. Each artist has a collection that reflects who they are, and that is also fascinating. One artist had been exploring icons and had created pieces focusing on Mary. I have never given a great amount of thought to icons, but I can certainly appreciate the beauty that is found in them. Oh how I long to be an artist and epxlore the emotions and thoughts that I have in this form as these women have.
I was especially looking forward to local artist Linda Thomas' prints. Last year I purchased one of her pieces "Moonlit Pears". This year I picked out another piece from Linda Thomas- a print of a branch with berries. I am so tickled!

It's only Tuesday

Ican't believe it is only Tuesday. It feels like it has already been a long week. Lately, it seems as though I am only living for the weekends and so I count down the days. I guess that has something to do with the fact that I am looking forward to returning to Chattanooga and once again living in this lovely city.

I know that I have mentioned that I love Domino magazine. They had an article in this month's magazine about how the wealthy stay organized and throw parties on a moment's notice. One of the suggestions was to have a "home bible" where you have all of the information about your home i.e. the a/c filter changing schedule, who does your lawn, the number for the plumber, etc. I would also think you should add in your paint colors in your house and your fabric choices, fav foods and where you get it... I could go on. I thought that this is a fab idea. I love it! So, I have started my home notebook. To be honest, I already had the beginnings of this notebook already and now am just spurred on to finish getting it together. I love little organizational things that are fun.

Announcing Mrs. Davis

Saturday night my cousin E married her longtime beau P. I was honored to act as Director of the wedding; I think they tried to pick the bossiest one in the family for the job...and so I won.

E is very "granola". She and I don't have a lot in common as far as style goes, but she is a very kind and intelligent young lady. (I say young lady because I am now only about a month away from being 30 and so every one is "young" to me. :) She was not really interested in having a wedding and didn't really care much about the details. So, her mother planned the wedding, including picking out the wedding dress, which was lovely. The wedding was outside on a farm and was a great setting for the wedding of two outdoorsy people.

As for my part in the wedding, I enjoyed it immensely and would love to make a full-time gig of it if I could. So, as I'm moving back to Chattown soon maybe I'll put myself out there as a wedding planner or director. I think I would really enjoy it--you know how I love to throw a party.

Friday a week ago I attended the Chattanooga Kids on the Block fundraiser at Pier 2. I remember being in elementary school and seeing the Kids on the Block puppet show in school so I was glad to lend my support to the cause. The buffet was delicious and there was a silent auction that I was excited about it. One of the baskets in the silent auction was from Sophie's- my favorite store, as you know. Of course, I had to bid on that basket. I also bid on a lovely pitcher and basin.

I got a call this week from Kids on the Block and I won both items I bid on. I was especially excited that I won the Sophie's basket!
